The Fool on the Hill 🥸⛰️
Hello hello! We back at it AGAIN with another week, bringing you the latest piping hot dish from the oven of Macapá. Super big week wow, so much happened! I call this week the semana de altos e baixos (or highs and lows) 'cause there were a lotta high highs and some pretty low lows packed into the week. Through it all though I learned more lessons, my testimony and faith grew stronger, and I've got this next week to be better cause of it! Lemme run y'all through it.
THE HIGHS:
Okay so we actually saw so many miracles this week it was nutty. First of all, Saturday afternoon we were contacting and we invited this random lady we met to church, and she actually came! She said she liked it a ton, would come next week too, and now we might be having her over at a member's house tomorrow for lunch with us. There's the why for the 20 contacts every day. We fasted for the first time in the transfer this week too and lemme just say wow, the power of fasting is REAL. Our LMA has a daughter who wants to get baptized super bad, but his wife has had a lot of questions about it so it hasn't happened yet. The day after we fasted, we went over and had like a 2hr convo with her and at the end she said she'd let her daughter get baptized!! And that someday she wanted to get baptized too?? You guys. Miracles out here. Left and right. That same day we went and saw our good friend Tome who we had on date for this week. We left him with the book of mormon and invited him to read good ol' page 500, and when we came back the next day dude had actually read almost the whole chapter. He said he really liked it, and especially liked when the Savior reestablished his authority on the Earth and the part about baptism. Most elect dude ever question mark? We talked to him about the word of wisdom and coffee, and he said he's already dropped drinking and smoking in the past, and if he had to drop another substance to follow Christ he would. Dude's faith is through the roof, and him and his wife are both progressing amazing. Everything was ready for his baptism this week, but.. now's when we get into the low parts of the week lol
THE LOWS:
Okay so our young friend Tome went to get interviewed and it went smooth as silk. Passed with flying colors. Only thing is that Elder Cotrell our ZL finishes the interview and like "dude's ready to go, so one thing - are him and his wife married legally?" And me and Elder Klinger look at each other like uhhh
I think? Turns out the answer's no. They were married religiously at their old church, but never arrived to be legally married. So it's looks like we've gotta get on the marriage grind for one more couple baby woo hoo let's make it happen. I felt pretty dumb after though, it's like bruh who forgets to ask the person if they're married or not, that's like the first question you ask when someone lives together. I let the fact him and his wife are almost 50 with grandchildren decieve me. But ya there was that part and then just some other dumb slip-ups during the week that by the end I felt like I was a fool. Straight foolin' around instead of thinking about all the details. But then I remembered that same message I shared either in the last email i sent out or the one before, about how Christ chose me to serve here even though I'm imperfect. Even though I stumble and I make mistakes over and over again, I can't testify of the Savior's redeeming power without beliving in it for myself as well. I know that without him I am nothing, I can't do anything worthwhile nor change lives, and I certainly have no success here on the mission that isn't credited to Jesus Christ. I'm grateful for him for showing me where I'm weak, and giving me the chance to learn and grow each day through each opportunity. As it says in one of my favorite scriptures, Jacob 4;

I swear I've already shared this scripture but gall its solid. If you're facing a challenge, come unto Christ. In the words of Amaleki, "Yea, come unto him, and offer your whole souls as an offering unto him... and as the Lord liveth ye will be saved." To me, "offer your whole soul as an offering" doesn't mean giving Christ some of yourself, neither some of your time, but all all yourself. All that you are. All of your weaknesses, insecurities and dificulties, and he will show you that through him and through his Godly timing, you can overcome them. That's a fact. That will happen. That's a promise I make to any and all reading in his sacred name, Amen.
Before ending the email here lemme toss into the mix some other funny moments from the week. Always love to share these and read these from other people.
- We were walking on the street close to a school and a group of kids called out and asked if we were airplane pilots

- Ate the most I think of my entire life one day this week for lunch. We made ourselves stroganoff and rirce and I downed 2 full plates and a half-liter of Açaí. #strivingforanironstomach
- I don't know what kind of curse we have on our WhatsApp but we've been locked out THREE times since we've arrived here, twice in the last week. We'll just be texting like normal then boom, can't enter into the app until tomorrow

- In the days of my areas in Belém I overheard legends about the açaí here in Macapá. This last week for lunch, finally got to try some of the best pure açaí the Amazon's have to offer. So thick the spoon stood on its own. Photo below.
Love everyone so much. Enjoy the summer heat and ima be enjoying the summer that never stops. Talk to yall next week peace ouuut
