WELCOME back folk to another Belémian Rhapsody. We hit the airport as soon as the week started, and headed to Belém for a zone leader conference. It was my first time going to one, so it was a super cool experience! A lot of the conference was just a debate between the zone leaders themselves on the best changes to make to the mission to have more success, but President Ferreira also prepared a really good training on being a leader. The biggest thing I took from it was a piece of simple advice: the best leader in the world was Jesus Christ, so look to him for an example in everything that I do. That piece of advice and a lot of others were said at the CLM and it was a great time. Also I got to see all the fellas so it was extra even mais melhor
I wanted to share this email a talk that I read this week, that I loved! It's called "It's true isn't it? Then what else matters?" And there's a experience he told that stood out to me:
Elder Gordon B. Hinckley spoke of meeting a young naval officer from Asia. The officer had not been a Christian, but during training in the United States, he had learned about the Church and was baptized. He was now preparing to return to his native land.
President Hinckley asked the officer: “Your people are not Christians. What will happen when you return home a Christian, and, more particularly, a Mormon Christian?”
The officer’s face clouded, and he replied: “My family will be disappointed. … As for my future and my career, all opportunity may be foreclosed against me.”
President Hinckley asked, “Are you willing to pay so great a price for the gospel?”
With his dark eyes moistened by tears, he answered with a question: “It’s true, isn’t it?”
President Hinckley responded, “Yes, it is true.”
To which the officer replied, “Then what else matters?”
I love that thought. If its true, its true. What else matters? If it was true once, it's true now and it continues to be true!
