THINGS WE SAID TODAY
QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
"There is a destiny, which makes us brothers; None lives to self alone;
All that we send into the lives of others
Comes back into our own."
- Edwin Markham
Learning another language has for me definitely been a journey of ups and downs. There are some days where I can practically feel Macapaense blood coursing through my veins and speak and am understood really well, but much of the time (if not the majority) I always need to give my full attenion to what others are saying and how I'm responding to be able to communicate well.
One night this week we were at a member's house talking with a family, while during the conversation one of the young women at the table wasn't understanding anything that I was saying. After about the seventh "huh?" after I'd said something, I asked if she was understanding my Portuguese, to which she said no. She stated that I mumble when I talk, don't vocalize loud enough, and gave me a list of reasons why she wasn't understanding what I was saying. Granted she was right and I've still got a ways to go, but the rest of the people at the table we were conversing with were understanding me, so where was the difference?
With the wall of communication being in another country, both the speaker and the listener have to be paying attention to understand the conversation being had. Strangely enough, moments like these have made me reflect about our ability to hear the spirit. If we don't pay close attention, we can easily miss the promptings the spirit during our everyday life. But I know that as we listen and strive to pay attention to those still small promptings, we will find more opportunities to serve and be more aligned with God's will in our lives.
That's the small experience and spiritual thought for the week I wanted to share, talk to you all next week! Love yall
