APR 20: ELDER BEBE COCA
Whats upppp everybody, this week flew the heck by! Got my new comp on Tuesday, Elder Babcock. Total stud, we've gotten along great ever since he's stepped foot here in Castanhal so this transfer is gonna be one of the greats. Babcock is a super hard worker, super excited and funny all the time and the days pass by way fast with him. He's already turning into a great leader here on the mission and has a tonnn of potential!
Also, whenever we introduce ourselves to people, I say my name like normal, and he always says "my name's Elder bebe-coca" 'cause with Brasil accent "Babcock" sounds a lot like "Bebe-Coca" which means drink coke. Whenever he explains that that's actually his name, people love him. Dude served in the right place.
The area's goin' smoothly, I love this city and there is so much potential. We've been working a lot in Jaderlandia everyday, which is a part of the city an hour away by foot, so we've been getting our steps in. Jose & Davi are great, they're like our best friends and Jose's wife, Cleide, has been to church 3 times now. She basically told us up-front this week that she would already be a member of the church at this point if there wasn't the commandment of the word of wisdom. We're working with her and praying with her a lot, so if you can please include her in your prayers!
Recently during a mission leader conference, we were invited to share with others things from the Missionary Manual, "Preach My Gospel." During a lunch we had this week, we shared a quote from the chapter of "finding people" with the family! Here's what we shared:
“We all share things with others. We do it often. We share what movies and food we like, funny things we see, places we visit, art we appreciate, quotes we’re inspired by.
“How might we simply add to the list of things we already share what we love about the gospel of Jesus Christ? … By sharing our positive experiences in the gospel with others, we take part in fulfilling the Savior’s great commission” (Gary E. Stevenson, “Love, Share, Invite,” Liahona, May 2022, 86).
That's an amazing thought! And something I wish I'd done more before being designated as a missionary. Simply be open about the Gospel! Nobody can accept the message of the Gospel if we don't first offer it. Have the courage to open your mouth, and the lord will give your words strength!
Love you all!
