JUNE 15: MII AND LII PART:
What a great week! I got to do a division with Elder Lee. Automatically great week.
Him and I met way back in his kindergarten days of Macapá. The guy arrived on the mission speaking fluent Portuguese, 10/10 on his charisma points, 3 nobel peace prizes under his belt due to his unmatched knowledge in physics, and knows every scripture out there like the back of his hand. He'll never tell you that though - he's way too humble.
We'd already done 2 divisions in Macapa, and it was so cool to see his progress during this 3rd! He's a stud. Gonna be a great Mission President here in 4 months.
You guys the world cup has arrived! For Brasil's first game, President let us cheer for them live! First time watching sports in almost 2 years, and definitively first time watching soccer in 20 years. The game was a nail-biter and Elder Babcock and I were hooting and hollering here and there, cheering for Brasil to win! They ended up 1-1. We'll fast for things to go better this Friday.
And fellas, we had a real special moment this Sunday. The much-awaited dunk to Elder Doman's lay-up months back finally entered the basket. Jose's wife, Cleide, WAS BAPTIZED!!!
She made some real sacrafices to be a part of the Lord's church people. She depended a lot on coffee, but after weeks and weeks of working together and of her asking the Lord, he took the addiction from her. Now they'll be able to work towards entering the Temple here in a year! Such an incredible family.
You guys the Lord is just, so merciful. He gives so much even when we're so undeserving - sometimes we've just gotta open our eyes.
Recently I started the habit of writing in my journal each night, and focusing specially on how I saw the hand of the Lord each day. As I sat to reflect on my day each night, I could see SO many evidences of the Lord's hand in each part! He is always looking out for us, and it does us much good to show gratitude for all the ways he blesses us. I stink at being grateful and I gotta get better at it, but the Lord made it clear that it's how we can show our love to him:
D&C 59: 21
"And in nothing doth man offend God, or against none is his wrath kindled, save those who confess not his hand in all things, and obey not his commandments."
Try focusing on the Lord's hand during your day this week! Your eyes will be opened, and the little things will become evidences of his love for you. That there is a promise.
Elder Hillstead
